Sodium  nitrite is a compound with the chemical formula NaNO2. It is an inorganic salt, white or slightly yellowish rhombohedral crystal or powder. It has a salty flavor, similar in appearance to table salt. Relative density 2. 168; melting point 271 ° C, at 320 ° C decomposition to produce oxygen, nitrogen, nitrogen oxide and sodium oxide.
