After hydrolysis, aluminum hydroxide is formed. The aqueous solution can be boiled for a long time to produce basic aluminum sulfate. The industrial products are grayish-white flake, granular or block, with a light green color due to low iron salts, and yellow surface due to oxidation of low iron salts. The coarse product is a gray-white porous fine crystalline structure. Non-toxic, dust can irritate eyes.
Function and use: as a precipitating agent for rosin gum, wax emulsion and other rubber materials in paper industry, as a flocculant in water treatment, but also as a retention agent for foam fire extinguisher, raw materials for manufacturing industrial aluminum sulfate alum, aluminum white, oil decolorization, deodorization agent, raw materials for some drugs, etc. It can also manufacture artificial gemstones and high-grade ammonium alum. Products with arsenic content not greater than 5mg/kg can be used as flocculants for water treatment
